An ultrasonic instrument (40) having a self tapping connector loosening ingrown bone from an intervertebral implant (12) is disclosed. The intervertebral implant includes first and second endplate assemblies (22, 24) and the first endplate assembly includes an unthreaded aperture (24). The method loosening ingrown bone comprises tapping the unthreaded aperture of the first endplate assembly with the self-tapping connector and passing an ultrasonic energy through the self tapping connector to the first endplate assembly. The method also comprises ultrasonically vibrating the first endplate assembly to break a first portion of the ingrown bone from the intervertebral implant.
Un instrument à ultrasons (40) équipé d'un connecteur autotaraudeur permet de dégager l'os formant saillie d'un implant intervertébral (12). L'implant intervertébral comprend des premier et second ensembles plaques d'extrémité (22, 24), le premier ensemble plaques d'extrémité comportant une ouverture non filetée (24). Le procédé de dégagement de l'os formant saillie consiste à tarauder l'ouverture non filetée du premier ensemble plaques d'extrémité à l'aide du connecteur autotaraudeur et à transmettre des ultrasons au premier ensemble plaques d'extrémité à l'aide du connecteur autotaraudeur. Ce procédé consiste également à faire vibrer par ultrasons le premier ensemble plaques d'extrémité pour séparer la première partie de l'os formant saillie de l'implant intervertébral.
