ABSTRACT: "Ultrasonic sector scanner" An ultrasonic sector scanner includes first and second magnetizable stators (10, 12) spaced on a longitudinal axis (18). First and second rotors (20, 22) are provided in the gaps between the end faces (14) of the first and second stators (10, 12), respectively. The rotors (20, 22) have tapered surfaces (38) spaced from the end faces (14) of the stators (10, 12) to form gaps there- between. The gaps between the first rotor (20) and the end faces (14) of the first stator (10) decrease as the rotor rotates in a first direction. The gaps between the second rotor (22) and the end faces (14) of the second stator (12) decrease as the rotors rotate in a second direction opposite the first direction. An ultra- sonic transducer (40) is connected to the rotors (20, 22) and ar- ranged to be rotatable with the rotors. A servo-control system is provided to cause the rotor/transducer assembly to rotate accord- ing to a prescribed reference signal.
