An ultrasonic transducer assembly comprises a transducer unit having an array transducer composed of a plurality of transducer elements for transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves to effect electronic scanning. and a casing for housing the transducer unit therein. The casing has a contact surface to be brought into contact with an object to be examined, and in the casing there is disposed a swing mechanism for swinging or pivoting the transducer unit with respect to a virtual rotative axis which is determined on an electronic scanning plane produced by the array transducer and in the vicinity of the contact portion of the casing. The swing mechanism includes a pair of guide members formed with arc-shaped guide routes concentrically arranged with the virtual rotative axis as its center, a linking mechanism for linking the transducer unit with the guide members in such a way that the transducer unit can be pivoted or swung along the arc-shaped guide routes of the guide members with respect to the virtual rotative axis; and a driving mechanism for reciprocatingly moving the transducer unit along the arc-shaped guide routes of the guide members. In this ultrasonic transducer assembly, a three-dimensional echo data acquiring region can be produced based on the shift of the electronic scanning plane with the virtual rotative axis as its center by the swinging mechanism. The virtual rotative axis is located in the vicinity of the contact surface of the casing. Therefore, when the contact surface of the transducer assembly is brought into contact with the body surface between the ribs of a patient to be examined, it is possible to acquire three-dimensional echo data through the space between the ribs, without being subject to the influence of the presence of the ribs.

Le mécanisme à bascule comporte une paire d'éléments de guidage formés de circuits de guidage arciformes disposés concentriquement, avec l'axe de rotation virtuelle au centre, un mécanisme de liaison pour relier le module transducteur aux éléments de guidage, de telle sorte que le transducteur puisse basculer ou pivoter le long des circuits de guidage arciformes par rapport à l'axe de rotation virtuelle; un mécanisme d'entraînement imprime au transducteur un mouvement alternatif le long des circuits de guidage. Dans ce module de transduction ultrasonore, une région d'acquisition d'écho tridimensionnel peut être créée sur la base du déplacement du plan de balayage électronique avec axe de rotation virtuelle placé en son centre par le mécanisme de basculement. L'axe de rotation virtuelle se trouve au voisinage immédiat de la surface de contact du boîtier.
