ABSTRACT Disclosed is an ultrasonic transducer comprising a transmitting layer having a relatively high dielectric constant and a relatively high acoustic impedance, and a receiving layer comprising material having a rel- atively low dielectric constant and a relatively low acoustic impedance. The layers are interconnected by means of hybrid techniques in a laminar manner. The receiving layer can provide a matching layer for the instance of transmission, e.g. for transmission through body tissue or water.
