The epoxidation of alkyds containing anhydrides or diacids with cycloaliphatic unsaturation results in epoxy resins which cure rapidly in UV light to produce uniform films without the use of flow modifiers. The fatty acid portion of the alkyd functions as an internal plasticizer. Crosslinking occurs through oxirane rings in both the anhydride and fatty acid moieties of the alkyd to produce hard, but not brittle films. Excellent water resistance is obtained without thermal post curing.

L'époxydation d'alkydes contenant des anhydrides ou des diacides à insaturation cycloaliphatique, donne des résines époxy qui durcissent rapidement à la lumière ultraviolette afin de produire des films uniformes, sans utilisation de modificateurs de fluidité. La portion d'acides gras de l'alkyde fonctionne en tant qu'agent plastifiant interne. La réticulation survient à travers les noyaux oxiranne, à la fois dans les fractions anhydrides et acides gras de l'alkyde pour produire des films durs mais pas cassants. On obtient une excellente résistance à l'eau sans durcissement thermique postérieur.
