An ink jet ink composition comprises a liquid vehicle and a water soluble dye having a fluorescent property. The fluorescent property in this ink jet ink composition comprises a fluorescing brightener and results in an ink which is invisible to the human eye when exposed to normal daylight or incandescent light conditions, yet visible as a fluorescent image when exposed to ultraviolet lighting, and can be used in ink jet printers.
