A security mechanism for the hoist system used in raising the dump body of a dump truck includes a platform which restrains the hoist in a raised-dump position from descending. The body prop maintains the dump body in a secure position if the hydraulic fails. It also prevents the lowering of the dump body if such an operation is attempted by the truck operator. The double-sided activation handle enables this apparatus to be operational from both sides of the dump body without having a user reach into the path of a descending bin.
