ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An undermattress for a bed or similar article of furniture comprises a frame having two longitudinal limbs with elastic support elements attached to the inside thereof. The elastic support elements are disposed opposite each other in pairs for supporting spring bridges disposed transversely of the mattress. Each spring bridge has formed therein at least one slot- like recess A extending longitudinally of the bridge and dividing it over a large portion of its length into parallel spring laths.
