A new configuration for at least some of the dimples on the surface of a golf ball (2) is characterized by undercut portions (16) in the concave surface (10) thereof. The undercut dimples (4) have a first diameter at the surface of the golf ball and a second diameter beneath the surface which is greater than the first diameter. Thus, a portion of the ball surface (2a) overhangs an annular portion of the dimple at the periphery thereof. The undercut portions (16) create additional turbulence at the surface of the golf ball (2) as it flies through the air to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the dimples, thereby reducing drag and increasing the distance the ball will travel when struck.
L'invention concerne une nouvelle configuration d'au moins certaines des alvéoles de la surface d'une balle (2) de golf, caractérisée par des parties (16) évidées par-dessous la surface concave (10) de la balle. Les alvéoles (4) à évidement sous-jacent présentent un premier diamètre à la surface de la balle, et, au-dessous de la surface, un deuxième diamètre supérieur au premier diamètre.
