- 12 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In order to incinerate waste which contains a large percentage of water and/or sulphur or chlorine containing compounds, air and particulate alkali earth metal minerals are blown into the combustion chamber of an underground incinerator combustion chamber. The air promotes oxidation of the waste while the particulate matter suspended in the air reacts with and neutralizes the acidic sulphurous and/or hydrochloric matter produced by the oxidation (combustion) process. In the event the waste does not contain much water, the mineral powder can be mixed with water to form a slurry.
