There is disclosed a system for drilling holes underground within an underground environment. The system includes drilling means having a drilling face for drilling a shaft underground. The system further includes cyclonic filter means operatively associated with the drilling means for drawing, by suction, debris produced during a drilling procedure. A shroud is mounted directly adjacent the drilling face such that a distance between the shroud and the drilling face is non-variable. A debris removal device is connected to the shroud for communication with the cyclonic filter means.
