An apparatus is disclosed for a turbine for generating electrical power from water or air flow comprising at least one rotor disk having a plurality of hydrofoil blades, guide vanes, a cylindrical housing, and a generator means. A rim generator comprising a magnet race rotor rim and fixed stator coils in the housing is used. The apparatus is fitted with a screen to stop the ingress of debris and marine life, and a skirt augmenter device to reduce the Betz effect. The apparatus is preferably for sub-sea deployment and driven by tidal currents, but may be powered by river current or wave driven air or by wind. The apparatus may be deployed on at least one telescoping pole, tethered to the sea-bed and kept buoyant by buoyant concrete in the housing, or inserted in a dam, under a barge or in a tidal power array.
La présente divulgation décrit un appareil à turbine qui permet de produire de l'électricité à partir d'un courant d'eau ou d'un écoulement d'air. Il comprend au moins un disque rotorique pourvu de multiples aubes à ailettes, des aubes fixes, un carter cylindrique et un générateur. Cet appareil fait appel à un générateur en anneau comprenant une bague rotorique à voie magnétique et des bobines statoriques fixes dans le carter. Cet appareil est équipé d'un écran pour bloquer l'afflux de débris et d'organismes marins, et un agrandisseur de jupe pour réduire l'effet Betz. Ledit appareil est de préférence destiné au déploiement sous-marin et commandé par les courants de marée, mais il peut être déployé au moins sur un poteau télescopique, captif sur le fond marin ou maintenu en flottaison par du béton flottant dans le carter, ou bien être installé dans un barrage, sous une barge ou dans un réseau d'énergie marémotrice.
