To produce an undetachable pressed connection between a fitting (1) and a metal pipe end (4) whose inside diameter is greater than 54 mm, the sleeve (3) of the fitting is furnished, in addition to the seal (9), with a retaining element (10) that is embedded in the material of the metal pipe when the sleeve is radially pressed together with the metal pipe end (4). A form-closed connection is created in the area of the retaining element whereby a round or almost round cross section of the sleeve is also present in the final pressed state and the sealing and retaining forces are the same or almost the same over the entire periphery.
