A uniaxially heat-shrinkable, biaxially oriented, multilayer film having a polypropylene-containing core layer comprising at least 70 wt.% of said multilayer film and at least one polyolefin-containing skin layer adjacent said core layer is prepared by biaxially orienting a coextrudate and thereafter orienting said coextrudate by stretching 10 to 40 % in the machine direction. The core layer contains isotactic polypropylene and a modifier which reduces the crystallinity of the polypropylene by increasing chain imperfections or reducing isotacticity of the polypropylene-containing core. Such modifiers can be selected from the group consisting of atactic polypropylene, syndiotactic polypropylene, ethylene-propylene copolymer, propylene-butene-1 copolymer, ethylene-propylene-butene-1 terpolymer, and linear low density polyethylene. The skin layer can be high density polyethylene on both sides or high density polyethylene on one side and isotactic polypropylene on the other side.
On a préparé un film multicouche orienté biaxialement thermorétrécissable uniaxialement présentant une couche d'âme contenant du polypropylène réprésentant au moins 70 % en poids dudit film multicouche, ainsi qu'au moins une couche de peau contenant de la polyoléfine, adjacente à ladite couche d'âme, par orientation biaxiale d'un coextrudat puis orientation dudit coextrudat par étirage de 10 à 40 % en sens machine. La couche d'âme contient du propylène isotactique ainsi qu'un modificateur réduisant la cristallinité du polypropylène par augmentation des imperfections de chaîne ou par réduction de l'isotacticité de l'âme contenant du polypropylène. On peut choisir ces modificateurs dans le groupe constitué de propylène atactique, polypropylène syndiotactique, copolymère éthylène-propylène, copolymère propylène-butène-1, terpolymère éthylène-propylène-butène-1 et polyéthylène linéaire basse densité. La couche de peau peut être du polyéthylène à haute densité sur les deux faces ou du polyéthylène à haute densité sur une face et du polypropylène isotactique sur l'autre face.
