A fixation assembly (100) is described comprising at least two plates (10, 60), one of which may be a contoured plate (10) and one of which may be a securing plate (60). The contoured plate may have a plurality of teeth (50a), and the securing plate may have a resilient securing element (74). The teeth may be arranged so that the resilient securing element encounters progressive resistance as the plates are compressed.
