Abstract A computer simulation system and method for creating complex simulations for a large number of objects. Each object in the simulation is assigned a local virtual time (LVT) and a global virtual time (GVT) as well as being assigned a variable aggressiveness Ai, where 0 ? Ai? ?, and a variabls risk Ri where 0 ? Ri? ? , Ai is the number of time units an object is capable of looking ahead to define a receive window within which an object is capable of receiving and processing messages. Ri is the number of time units into the global future that an object is capable of sending messages to define a send window for each of the objects. This provides a unified distribution simulation system that allows variable asynchronous message passing with the synchrony between objects being varied by adaptable aggressiveness Ai and risk Bi parameters for each object in the simulation with each parameter being adjusted depending on circumstances in the simulation. This results in a system which is more flexible and one that is able to take better advantage of available computing resources than those presently available.
