Methods and apparatus for uniquely identifying wireless devices in close physical proximity are described. When two wireless devices are brought into close proximity, one of the devices displays an optical indicator, such as a light pattern. This device then sends messages to other devices which are within wireless range to cause them to use any light sensor to detect a signal. In an embodiment, the light sensor is a camera and the detected signal is an image captured by the camera. Each device then sends data identifying what was detected back to the device displaying the pattern. By analyzing this data, the first device can determine which other device detected the indicator that it displayed and therefore determine that this device is in close physical proximity to it. In an example, the first device is an interactive surface arranged to identify the wireless addresses of devices which are placed on the surface.
La présente invention concerne des procédés et un appareil permettant didentifier de façon unique des dispositifs sans fil physiquement proches. Lorsque deux dispositifs sans fil sont placés à proximité, un des dispositifs affiche un indicateur optique, tel quun motif lumineux. Ce dispositif envoie ensuite des messages aux autres dispositifs qui se trouvent dans la zone sans fil pour faire en sorte quils utilisent un capteur optique quelconque pour détecter un signal. Dans un mode de réalisation, le capteur optique est un appareil photo et le signal détecté est une image capturée par lappareil photo. Chaque dispositif renvoie ensuite au dispositif affichant le motif, des données identifiant ce qui a été détecté. En analysant ces données, le premier dispositif peut déterminer quel autre dispositif a détecté lindicateur affiché et, par conséquent, déterminer que ce dispositif est physiquement proche. Dans un exemple, le premier dispositif est une surface interactive conçue pour identifier les adresses sans fil des dispositifs qui sont placés sur la surface.
