The present invention is directed to unique properties of stem cells, including methods to identify stem cell markers by identifying molecules associated specifically with chromosomes in stem cells. More particularly, we have discovered that somatic stem cells repeatedly inherit an entire complement of chromosomes that contain the same parental template DNA strands from one generation to the next. The present invention also provides methods related to diagnosis, prognosis, and treatments for cancer and aging in mammalian tissus, including human.

La présente invention a trait à des propriétés uniques de cellules souches, et notamment à des procédés d'identification de marqueurs de cellules souches, par l'identification de molécules associées de manière spécifique à des chromosomes dans des cellules souches. Plus particulièrement, nous avons découvert que les cellules souches somatiques héritaient d'un complément entier de chromosomes contenant, d'une génération à l'autre, les mêmes brins de matrice d'ADN parentaux. La présente invention concerne également des méthodes concernant le diagnostic, le pronostic et les traitements du cancer et du vieillissement des tissus mammifères, notamment humains.
