A UNIT FOR COVERING A FOSSIL FUEL BURNING FURNACE INTO AN ELECTRICAL FURNACE Abstract of the Disclosure A conversion unit for converting a normal fossil fuel burning furnace such as an oil furnace into an elec- trical furnace such that electrical energy is utilized for heating except during those periods of high energy usage during which the cost of electrical power would be higher than normal or loads exist upon the electrical energy supply and during which time the system returns to a fossil fuel- burning situation. The unit includes an electrical heating unit for insertion into the duct system of a furnace unit and includes a plurality of electrical heating elements arranged to be inserted into the duct work of a fossil fuel burning forced air furnace and which elements are provided for insertion into the duct work of the provided furnace in close association to or within the plenum of the provided furnace such that the fan or blowerof the provided furnace will produce and provide air flow therefrom when the same is actuated. The electrical heating unit is arranged and con- strutted to be positioned in close association above the heat exchanger of the provided furnace to utilize the air fan of the furnace for the distribution of heated air there- from into the duct work of the heating system of the home or other building and the unit includes an air divider unit such that air being delivered from the fan or blower of the furnace will be properly dispersed through the electrical heating elements prior to delivery through the duct work. The unit includes the heating elements which are insertable into the duct work system of the installation with temperature sensing mechanisms to control the fan or blower of the provided furnace system when the air being heated thereby reaches a predetermined temperature and which tem- perature sensing mechanisms also control the operation of the heating elements should there be residual hot air from the heating exchanger of yhe furnace. Thhe unit also includes shrouds to provide for effective air distribution from the plenum of the provided furnace system to circulate the same past the electrically heated elements prior to introduction to the duct system of the installation.
