A space heater and ventilating unit for a room employs a hot water heater that includes a burner and a first heat exchanger for heat exchange between water supplied to the heater and the combustion gases of the burner. An air-to-air heat exchanger has a first set of air passageways for delivering exhaust air from the room to an exhaust air outlet and a second set of air passageways through which supply air passes. A first fan draws the exhaust air through the first set of passageways where this air can warm the supply air. A second fan passes the supply air through the second set of passageways. An additional water-air heat exchanger mounted downstream of the second set of passageways heats the supply air to a desired temperature. A pipe delivers hot water from the heater to the additional heat exchanger and there are means for returning the water from this heat exchanger to the heater. In a preferred embodiment, there is a water storage tank that is separate from the heater and a diverting valve that can direct hot water directly to the storage tank, when appropriate, so that it does not flow to the additional heat exchanger.

Dans un modèle privilégié, on prévoit l'installation d'un réservoir d'eau séparé de l'appareil de chauffage et d'un robinet de répartition qui permet d'acheminer l'eau chaude directement vers le réservoir, au moment opportun, de sorte qu'elle ne soit pas acheminée vers l'échangeur de chaleur additionnel.
