A lag shield is provided as a unitary part, molded in one piece. In contrast with conventional lag shields made from mated halves, these unitary lag shields do not suffer from separation of the halves prior to use, and they achieve a higher tolerance with the bolt driven into them, as evidenced by a significant improvement in peak load attainable.
