The present invention is an apparatus and method for increasing the security of a door latch that uses a striker plate (10) having a striker plate housing (12) with at least one opening (14), one or more pins (16) positioned slidably and toward an opening (14) in the striker plate housing (10) and a biasing mechanism (38) in contact with the one or more pins (16) for biasing each of the one or more pins (16) toward the opening (14) to conform to the shape of a throw bolt inserted into the opening.
