The present invention provides an improved handle which may used to releaseably hold various types of surgical instruments employed in medical or dental procedures. The handle is comprised of a grasping portion and a lock assembly that contains a retractable slider pin designed to engage one or more indentations provided with instruments intended for use with the handle. The lock assembly may be provided with at least one biaising member which holds the pin in an extended position thereby locking the surgical instrument to the handle. The instrument may be removed from the handle or rotated by the user retracting the pin to release the instrument from the handle. A system and a method of interchangeably using surgical instruments in the handle is also disclosed.

L'invention concerne une poignée améliorée que l'on peut utiliser pour tenir de manière amovible différents types d'instruments chirurgicaux utilisés dans des opérations médicales ou pratiques dentaires. La poignée comporte une partie de préhension et un ensemble de verrouillage renfermant une tige rétractable coulissante conçue pour être en prise avec au moins une entaille des instruments destinés à être utilisés avec la poignée. L'ensemble de verrouillage peut avoir au moins un élément de sollicitation maintenant la tige dans une position d'extension, ledit instrument chirurgical étant ainsi verrouillé à la poignée. L'utilisateur peut enlever l'instrument de la poignée ou le tourner en retirant la tige pour le libérer de la poignée. L'invention concerne en outre un système et un procédé d'utilisation d'instruments chirurgicaux de manière interchangeable dans la poignée.
