The invention proposes a universal housing (1) for a plug-type connector (2) having a high leakproofness rating. The universal housing (1) has a base shell (4) and a cover shell (19) which is placed onto the base shell (4). The plug-type connector (2) comprises a plug part (22) and a socket part (8), the socket part (8) being associated with the base shell (4) or the cover shell (19), and the plug part (22) being associated with the respective other shell (4, 19). In each case one adapter (9, 23), whose outer contour (12, 26) is matched to the inner contour (13, 27) of the base shell (4) or the cover shell (19), and whose inner contour (10, 24) is designed to be complementary to the outer contour (11, 25) of the socket part (8) or plug part (22), is inserted into the base shell (4) and into the cover shell (19). Owing to a modification of the adapter (9, 23), the universal housing (1) can therefore be matched to various plug-type connectors (2) and seals them safely.
