A universal hydraulic tool (10) for compressing a connector fitting (25) to tube portions (23, 24) to be joined is disclosed. The tool (10) includes a base member (11) and a tool member which define aligned receiving chambers (17, 21). The base member (11) defines a first jaw set (16) and a slide member (20) defines a second jaw set (28). The reception chambers (17, 21) have a width adjacent the jaw sets (16, 28) slightly larger than the connector fitting end (30). The base member (11) mounts a cylinder (33) having a piston (34) operatively connected to the slide member (20). Relative movement between the base member (11) and the slide member (20) compress the connector fitting (25) in either the forward direction or the reverse direction to form the desired tube joint without using a different hydraulic tool.

Un outil hydraulique universel (10) permet de comprimer un raccord de tuyauterie (25) sur des parties de tube (23, 24) à assembler. L'outil (10) comporte un élément de base (11) et un élément d'outil qui définissent des chambres de réception alignées (17, 21). L'élément de base (11) définit un premier jeu de mâchoires (16), un élément coulissant (20) définissant un second jeu de mâchoires (28). Les chambres de réception (17, 21) sont élargies au niveau des jeux de mâchoires (16, 28) pour y être légèrement plus grandes que l'extrémité (30) du raccord de tuyauterie. Un cylindre (33), monté dans l'élément de base (11), comporte un piston (34) en relation fonctionnelle avec l'élément coulissant (20). Le déplacement de l'élément coulissant (20) par rapport à l'élément de base (11) comprime le raccord de tuyauterie (25) soit vers l'avant, soit dans le sens inverse, ce qui permet de réaliser la jonction souhaitée des tubes sans employer un outil hydraulique différent.
