A control element of a pneumatic control device for personal hygiene equipment, such as a whirlpool tub, has a universal structure capable of being adapted to issue different pneumatic commands. The control element includes a hollow body having at least one air intake hole placing the interior of the body in communication with the atmosphere outside the body, a spring-loaded push-button axially slidable in the hollow body, a tube that extendfs from an end of the hollow body and communicates with the interior of the hollow body, and a cooperating mechanism that enables the push-button to be selectively located at a resting position at which the air intake hole is open to the interior of the tube and an intermediate position at which the push-button shuts the air intake hole from the interior of the tube. The cooperating mechanism has at least one discrete member that can be omitted during assembly so that the cooperating mecanism can be rendered basically ineffectual. Without an effectual cooperating mechanism, the push-button can be lowered from the intermediate position toward the end of its stroke to act like a piston and thereby compress air in the hollow body, thereby sending a pulse of air through the tube.
