A guide catheter apparatus that comprises the following: (a) a guide catheter portion (900) that includes a plurality of electroactive polymer actuators disposed along its axial length and (b) a control unit coupled to the actuators and sending control signals to the actuators. The actuators change the shape of the guide catheter portion based upon the control signals that are received from the control unit. In another aspect of the present invention, a method of introducing a guide catheter into a body lumen is provided. The method comprises: (a) providing a guide catheter apparatus like that above, and (b) inserting the guide catheter portion of the guide catheter apparatus into the body lumen, while using the control unit to control the shape of the guide catheter portion.
L'invention concerne un appareil à cathéter-guide comprenant (a) une partie cathéter-guide (900), pourvue d'une pluralité d'actionneurs à polymères électroactifs disposés sur la longueur axiale de ladite partie, et (b) une unité de commande reliée à ces actionneurs et envoyant des signaux de commande à ces derniers. Ces actionneurs changent la forme de la partie cathéter-guide sur la base des signaux de commande reçus en provenance de ladite unité de commande. Dans un autre aspect, la présente invention concerne un procédé d'insertion d'un cathéter-guide dans une lumière corporelle. Ce procédé consiste (a) à préparer un appareil à cathéter-guide du type susmentionné et (b) à insérer la partie cathéter-guide dudit appareil dans la lumière corporelle, tout en utilisant l'unité de commande pour commander la forme de la partie cathéter-guide.
