A preferred form of a packing apparatus (10) of the present invention for loading a dough product (12) into a container (14) through a container opening (60) includes a frame (24) and a loading member (16) joined to the frame (24). The loading member (16) has a first opening (44) for receiving the dough product (12) to be packed, and a second opening (50) through which the dough product (12) exits off the loading member (16) and into the container (14). An inner surface (42) joins the first opening (44) to the second opening (50). The inner surface (42) has an extending tang (56) disposed at the second opening (50). The extending tang (56) is insertable within the container opening (60). A support member (20) supports the container (14) proximate the second opening (50) for insertion of the dough product (12) into the container (14).
