A system and method for automating the remote control of a device. A master remote control and a slave remote control are located separately but maintain a communication link. A sensor at the master remote control, on detecting a predefined stimulus, triggers the master remote control to initiate a first signal to the slave remote control over the communication link. In response to the first signal, the slave remote control issues a second signal, instructing the remotely controlled device to change its state.
