A system that allows addressable users to interface with one or a plurality of geographically separated primary (live), addressable communications servers. The server end will utilize hardware (e.g., processor, RAM, ROM) and software components to connect with and receive data from an imaging device or plurality of devices (e.g., CCD camera/chip) which is/are attached to and receiving input (e.g., light) from an observatory/telescope. Interface with these servers will be accessible to a plurality of users via a wide area network arrangement (e.g., Internet). The user end will consist of software and hardware components (e.g., A display unit) having a memory component (e.g., VRAM) for storing image data, a controller/processor for processing data signals to provide the image data to the memory components, and an image display panel for displaying the image data, as well as a user control device or plurality of user control devices (e.g., keyboard, mouse or a remote) and a modem switch to selectively interconnect via an addressing scheme (e.g., Uniform Resource Locator addresses (URLs)) that allows a plurality of networked users to access and receive data/ view images from a select observatory or plurality of observatories over a wide area network arrangement in a real time fashion.
