The invention relates to an unsaturated polyester resin composition free of any non reactive solvent comprising: A) at least one unsaturated polyester obtained from: A1) an acid component including at least one ethylenically unsaturated cycloaliphatic anhydride and at least 5 mol. % of icatonic acid and/or anhydride and A2) a polyol component including at least one hydroxylated primary amine, said unsaturated polyester A) including at least one ethylenically unsaturated cycloaliphatic imide derived from said unsaturated cycloaliphatic anhydride and said polyol component A2) being free from any alkoxylated structure, the proportions and the average functionality of the components A1) and A2) being selected so as to avoid any cross-linking gelling. More specifically, the resin composition further includes: B) at least one monomer and/or oligomer reactive thinner including at least one ethylene unsaturation that can be copolymerised with the ethylene unsaturation of said unsaturated polyester A) and said thinner B) being free of any alkoxylated structure, and optionally C) at least one saturated polyester liquid at room temperature and having at least one (meth)acrylic terminal unsaturation. The invention also relates to a method for preparing said resin composition, to a cross-linkable composition containing the same and to various uses thereof in electric protection and/or insulation coatings having a high thermal stability, mainly in the electrotechnical field or in moulding compositions.
