- 1 - Abstract: A method of upgrading low-rank coal containing high ash and moisture contents into a coal with decreased ash and moisture contents and a heightened heating value is characterised by subjecting the low-rank coal to a low- temperature dry distillation treatment. The coal so treated is then pulverised and formed into a coal-water slurry, including adding a binder to the slurry to effect oil agglomeration.
