A stent adapted for placing in the urethra so as to retain the urethra's diameter above a critical level is provided. The stent comprises: a spiral band made of a two-way shape memory alloy having two memory states consisting of a first state in which said alloy is soft and substantially deformable and a second state in which said alloy has super elastic properties and is substantially non-deformable, the alloy changes from the first state to the second state at a first transition temperature being above physiological body temperature and changes from the second to the first state at a second transition temperature being below physiological body temperature; in said second state consecutive windings of the band are adjacent one another so that they form together essentially a continuous cylindrical tube of a diameter above said critical level; in said first state said band forms a coiled structure having a maximal external diameter so as to allow deployment of stent within the urethra.

Cette invention se rapporte à un extenseur conçu pour être placé dans l'urètre, afin de maintenir le diamètre de l'urètre au-dessus d'un niveau critique. Cet extenseur comprend: une bande spiralée, fabriquée en un alliage à mémoire de forme double, ayant deux états de mémoire, à savoir un premier état dans lequel l'alliage est mou et essentiellement déformable et un second état dans lequel l'alliage possède des propriétés super-élastiques et essentiellement non déformables. Ledit alliage passe du premier état au second état à une première température de transition supérieure à la température corporelle physiologique et il passe du second au premier état à une seconde température de transition inférieure à la température corporelle physiologique. Dans ce second état, les enroulements consécutifs de la bande sont adjacents les uns aux autres, afin de former ensemble essentiellement un tube cylindrique continu d'un diamètre supérieur audit niveau critique. Dans le premier état, ladite bande forme une structure enroulée ayant un diamètre externe maximal tel qu'il permet le déploiement de l'extenseur dans l'urètre.
