This invention provides pharmaceutical uses for 2.alpha.-methyl-19-nor-20(S)- 1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3. This compounds is characterized by high bone calcium mobilization activity demonstrating preferential activity on bone. This results in a novel therapeutic agent for the treatment of diseases where bone formation is desired, particularly osteoporosis. This compound also exhibits pronounced activity in arresting the proliferation of undifferentiated cells and inducing their differentiation to the monocyte thus evidencing use as an anti-cancer agent and for the treatment of skin diseases such as psoriasis. This compound also increases both breaking strength and crushing strength of bones evidencing use in conjunction with bone replacement surgery such as hip and knee replacements.
La présente invention concerne des utilisations pharmaceutiques de 2.alpha.-méthyl-10-nor-20(S)-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamine D3. Ce composé se caractérise en ce qu'il présente une activité élevée de mobilisation du calcium osseux, de préférence, une activité sur l'os. Ceci permet d'obtenir un nouvel agent thérapeutique pour le traitement de maladies dans lesquelles la formation osseuse est souhaitée, en particulier l'ostéoporose. Ce composé présente également une activité prononcée visant, d'une part, à stopper la prolifération de cellules indifférenciées, et d'autre part, à favoriser leur différenciation par rapport au monocyte, il peut donc être utilisé comme agent anticancéreux et pour traiter des maladies de peau, telles que le psoriasis. Ce composé permet également d'augmenter la résistance à la cassure et la résistance à l'effritement des os, il peut donc être utilisé pour la chirurgie de remplacement osseux, par exemple, le remplacement de la hanche et le remplacement du genou.
