ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Pharmaceutical compositions are provided comprising 3,3'-azo-bis- (6-hydroxybenzoic acid) of the formula Image or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof as an active ingredient, in combination with at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and/or adjuvant. Such compositions are useful as a drug, especially as an agent e.g. an oral agent, for treating inflammatory intestinal diseases, e.g. ulcerous colitis.
