The present invention relates to the use of a natural substance containing thymol in the manufacture of an animal feed or a drinkink water supplement for the alleviation, cure or prevention of diseases caused by clostridium sp - particularly clostridium perfringens - in the intestinal tracts of animals, such as poultry and mammals. The natural substance preferably contains a mixture of guaiacol, thymol, eugenol, capsaicin, tannin and at least one cresol. The presence of the mixture also improves the digestibility of the feed and the growth rate of the animals. An animal feed containing 1-500 ppm of the mixture, with the proviso that it does not contain any surface active emulsifying agent, and a drinking water supplement are also described, as well as a premix and a feed additive adapted for use in the manufacture of the animal feed.

L'invention concerne l'utilisation d'une substance naturelle contenant du thymol pour la fabrication d'aliments pour animaux ou d'un supplément pour l'eau de boisson permettant de soulager, de soigner ou de prévenir des maladies causées par le Clostridium sp, plus particulièrement le Clostridium perfringens, dans le tractus intestinal d'animaux, dont la volaille et les mammifères. La substance naturelle contient de préférence un mélange de gaïacol, thymol, eugénol, capsaïcine, tanin et au moins un crésol. La présence du mélange améliore aussi la digestibilité des aliments et la vitesse de croissance des animaux. Un aliment pour animaux renfermant entre 1 et 500 ppm du mélange, à condition qu'il ne contienne aucun agent émulsifiant tensioactif, et un supplément pour eau de boisson font aussi l'objet de cette invention. L'invention concerne en outre un prémélange et un additif alimentaire pour animaux conçu pour être utilisés dans la fabrication d'aliments pour animaux.
