Stage 1 Group I metal/porous metal oxide compositions or Stage II Group 1 metal/porous metal oxide compositions are shown to be useful to remove impurities and act as drying agents for various types of solvents and for olefinic monomers used in anionic polymerizations. One important advantage of these compositions is their ability to dry simultaneously solvent and monomers, without inducing a significant polymerization of the latter. Another important characteristic is the capacity of the compositions to be totally inactive toward conventional anionic polymerization which allows them to be left in situ during the polymerization itself.
L'invention concerne des compositions d'oxyde de métal poreux/métal du groupe 1 étape 1 ou des compositions d'oxyde de métal poreux/métal du groupe 1 étape II qui se sont avérées utiles pour retirer des impuretés et agir en tant qu'agents de séchage pour divers types de solvants et pour des monomères oléfiniques utilisés dans des polymérisations anioniques. Un avantage important de ces compositions est leur capacité à sécher simultanément un solvant et des monomères, sans induire une polymérisation significative de ces derniers. Une autre caractéristique importante est la capacité des compositions à être totalement inactives envers une polymérisation anionique conventionnelle, ce qui leur permet d'être laissées in situ pendant la polymérisation elle-même.
