The use of certain amidoamines to disinfect contact lenses and preserve ophthalmic compositions is described. Ophthalmic compositions containing these compounds as disinfecting agents or preservatives are also described. The amidoamines utilized in the present invention have potent antibacterial and antifungal activity, and are chcmically.compatible ovith inorganic ions and other materials utilized in ophthalmic compositions.

L'invention porte sur l'emploi de certaines amidoamines pour la désinfection des verres de contact et la conservation de préparations à caractère ophtalmologique et sur des préparations à caractère ophtalmologique ou des désinfectants les contenant. Lesdites amidoamines ont un fort pouvoir bactéricide et fongicide tout en étant chimiquement compatibles avec les ions inorganiques et autres ingrédients des préparations ophtalmologiques utilisés .
