The present invention is directed to a method of improving functional recovery following a central nervous system contusion injury. The method includes administering a therapeutically effective amount of glycosaminoglycan degrading enzyme. The glycosaminoglycan degrading enzyme may be dermatan sulfate or chondroitin sulfate degrading enzymes. The central nervous system contusion injury may include a traumatic brain injury or a spinal cord injury. The functional recovery may include autonomic functions, sensory functions, motor functions or the like.

La présente invention se rapporte à une méthode permettant d'améliorer le rétablissement fonctionnel à la suite d'une blessure par contusion du système nerveux central. La méthode selon l'invention consiste à administrer une dose thérapeutiquement efficace d'une enzyme dégradant les glycosaminoglycanes. Ladite enzyme dégradant les glycosaminoglycanes peut être une enzyme dégradant le dermatane-sulfate ou la chondroïtine-sulfate. Ladite blessure par contusion du système nerveux central peut être un traumatisme cérébral ou un traumatisme médullaire. Le rétablissement fonctionnel peut être la récupération de fonctions autonomes, de fonctions sensorielles, de fonctions motrices ou analogues.
