The present invention is based upon the surprising discovery that Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF) may act directly on the heart as a cardioprotective factor and provides CTGF for use in the treatment of a subject who has incurred or is incurring damage to the heart, wherein said CTGF is for administration during or after the heart-damaging event. The invention also relates to CTGF for use in protection of the heart during or after surgery or during ex vivo transportation or storage of an ex-planted heart.

La présente est fondée sur la découverte surprenante selon laquelle le facteur de croissance du tissu conjonctif (CTGF) pourrait agir directement sur le cur en tant que cardioprotecteur et elle concerne l'utilisation de CTGF dans le traitement d'un sujet qui a subi ou subit un dommage au cur, ledit CTGF devant être administré pendant ou après l'événement endommageant le cur.
