The invention relates to the use of cyclic depsipeptide as a chemotherapeutic agent against cancer. Serratamolide, which is also known as cyclo [(3R)-3- hydroxydecanol-L-seryl-(3R)-3-hydroxydecanol-L-serylo], is a cyclic depsipeptide which is isolated fromSerratia marcescens bacterial cultures. Serratamolide reduces the viability of different cancerous cells (leukemias, myelomas, carcinomas, etc.) and induces apoptosis in said cells, producing virtually no effect on non-cancerous cells. As a result, serratamolide and the pharmaceutically-acceptable solvates and/or addition salts thereof can be used as an anticancer chemotherapeutic agent, particularly against leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, carcinoma, melanoma and sarcoma.

L'invention concerne la serratamolide, également désignée sous le nom de cyclo [(3R)-3-hydroxydécanoyl-L-séryl-(3R)-3-hydroxydécanoyl-L-sérylo], un depsipeptide cyclique isolé de cultures de bactéries de l'espèce Serratia marcescens. La serratamolide diminue la viabilité de diverses cellules cancéreuses (leucémies, myélomes, carcinomes, etc.) et induit l'apoptose dans celles-ci, pratiquement sans effet sur les cellules non cancéreuses. La serratamolide et ses sels d'addition et/ou ses solvates acceptables d'un point de vue pharmaceutique sont ainsi utilisés comme agents chimiothérapeutiques anticancéreux, en particulier contre la leucémie, les lymphomes, les myélomes, les carcinomes, les mélanomes et les sarcomes.
