The present invention relates to a three-dimensional powder-based production process using powder which comprises a cyclic oligomer, and also to a molding produced by this process. The process is a layer-by-layer process using powder, where regions of respective layers are selectively melted via electromagnetic energy. Selectivity can be achieved via masks, or application of inhibitors, of absorbers, or of susceptors, or via focusing of energy input, for example via laser technology. After cooling, the regions then solidified can be removed as a molding from the powder bed. The process uses a cyclic oligomer which is often very easy to grind. Improvements have been obtained in properties of the molding produced by the process, in particular, the density and the temperature of deflection under load. The cyclic oligomer is of a polymer, such as, polyester, polyamide, polysulfide, polyether and so on.
