This invention relates to the use of polysaccharide such as dextran to improve mucus clearance. In the present invention, dextran has been shown to reduce viscoelasticity and increase mucus clearability of sputum of cystic fibrosis patients. Dextran also reduced viscoelasticity of healthy dog mucus. The present invention therefore may be used to improve mucus clearance in cystic fibrosis patients and treat other conditions associated with defect in airway mucus clearance including chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis and bronchial asthma.
Cette invention a trait à l'utilisation d'un polysaccharide tel que la dextrane pour améliorer la clairance du mucus. Dans la présente invention, il a été établi que la dextrane réduisait la visco-élasticité et augmentait la capacité de clairance des expectorations chez les patients atteints de fibrose kystique du pancréas. La dextrane réduisait également la visco-élasticité du mucus chez les chiens bien portants. La présente invention peut donc être utilisée pour accroître la clairance du mucus chez les patients souffrant de fibrose kystique et pour traiter d'autres affections associées à un problème de clairance du mucus dans les voies aériennes, notamment la bronchite chronique, la bronchectasie et l'asthme bronchique.
