Methods of promoting functional regeneration of injured nerve fibres are described. The methods involve administering enteric glial cells to an animal with a nerve injury or neurdegenerative disease. The method is also useful in inducing formation of a blood-brain barrier in the nervous system.

L'invention concerne des méthodes propres à favoriser la régénération fonctionnelle de fibres nerveuses blessées. Ces méthodes consiste à administrer des cellules gliales entériques à un animal souffrant de lésions nerveuses ou d'une maladie neurodégénérative. Cette méthode favorise par ailleurs la formation d'une barrière hémato-encéphalique dans le système nerveux.
