Gene expression profiling in multiple myeloma patients identifies genes that distinguish between patients with subsequent early death or long survival after treatment. Poor survival is linked to over-expression of genes such as ASPM, OPN3 and CKS1B which are located in chromosome lq. Given the frequent amplification of 1q in many cancers, it is possible that these genes can be used as powerful prognostic markers and therapeutic targets for multiple myeloma and other cancer.

Le profilage de l'expression génétique chez plusieurs patients atteints d'un myélome permet d'identifier des gènes qui distinguent les patients avec une espérance de vie courte de ceux avec une espérance de vie prolongée suite à un traitement. Une espérance de vie courte est liée à la surexpression de gènes tels que <I>ASPM</I>, <I>OPN3</I> et <I>CKS1B</I> qui sont situés dans le chromosome 1q. En raison de l'amplification fréquente du chromosome 1q dans de nombreux cancers, il est possible que ces gènes puissent être utilisés comme des marqueurs pronostiques et des cibles thérapeutiques efficaces pour les myélomes multiples et d'autres types de cancers.
