ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Steroids having a 15,16-double bond, especially gestodene (17.alpha.-ethynyl-17.beta.-hydroxy-18-methyl-4,15- estradien-3-one), can be used for the treatment of carcinomas that can be inhibited in their growth by the protein TGF.beta. (Tumor Growth Factor .beta.), especially breast] carcinoma. At least one antiestrogen can be coadministered.
