-9- Le graphite a une caractéristique lubrifiante grâce à sa structure laminaire à deux plans, basal et edge. Le plan basal est hydrophobe. L'utilisation du graphite ou du carbone traité à haute température dans un composite ou revêtement (peinture) dont l'orientation préférentielle des particules est basale permet de repousser l'eau de la surface du revêtement. Cette caractéristique permet d'empêcher ou de réduire l'accumulation de la glace sur les installations électriques.
