ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of stabilizing 3-isothiazolones against chemical degradation in antagonistic environments by the use of certain activated halogen compounds is disclosed. Compositions including 3-isothiazolones and alkyl halohydantoins, halo-substituted triazinetriones, N-halosuccinimides, p-toluenesulfonyl halides, haloacetic acids and alkyl sulfamoyl halides are found to be particularly stable in metal working fluids and latex paints.
