Inositol-tripyrophosphate is an allosteric effector of hemoglobin due to its ability to cross the plasma membrane of red blood cells and deliver oxygen to solid tumors, by lowering the oxygen affinity of the hemoglobin of red blood cells. The present invention is directed to the use of inositol-tripyrophosphate to reduce hemoglobin's affinity for oxygen in circulating red blood cells. The present invention is further directed to the use of inositol-tripyrophosphate to inhibit angiogenesis and enhance radiation sensitivity of hypoxic tumors. The present invention is further directed to the use of inositol-tripyrophosphate for the treatment of various types of cancers, Alzheimer's disease, stroke and osteoporosis.
L'inositol-tripyrophosphate est un effecteur allostérique de l'hémoglobine de par sa capacité à traverser la membrane plasmique des globules rouges et à fournir l'oxygène aux tumeurs solides, en abaissant l'affinité de l'hémoglobine des globules rouges pour l'oxygène. On décrit l'utilisation de l'inositol-tripyrophosphate pour réduire ladite affinité dans les globules rouges circulants. On décrit par ailleurs l'utilisation de l'inositol-tripyrophosphate pour inhiber l'angiogenèse et augmenter la sensibilité des tumeurs hypoxiques aux rayonnements. On décrit enfin l'utilisation de l'inositol-tripyrophosphate pour le traitement de divers types de cancers, de la maladie d'Alzheimer, de l'accident vasculaire cérébral et de l'ostéoporose.
