Lactobacillus salivarius is useful in the prophylaxis or treatment of undesirable inflammatory activity, especially gastrointestinal inflammatory activity such as inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowel syndrome. The inflammatory activity may also be due to cancer. The Lactobacillus salivarius is of human origin isolated from resected and washed human gastrointestinal tract. One such strain is UCC 118 described in WO-A-9835014.
Selon cette invention, Lactobacillus salivarius est utile dans la prévention ou le traitement d'une activité inflammatoire indésirable, notamment d'une activité inflammatoire gastro-intestinale telle que la maladie intestinale inflammatoire et le syndrome du côlon irritable. L'activité inflammatoire peut aussi être due au cancer. Le bacille Lactobacillus salivarius est d'origine humaine, isolé à partir du tractus gastro-intestinal réséqué et nettoyé. Une de ses souches est UCC 118, décrite dans WO-A-9835014.
